Fun Family Fitness Activities!
Run Activities:
- Set up a scavenger hunt with multi-sport equipment (e.g. shoes, helmet, goggles, water bottles...etc.). Challenge your child to collect everything on the scavenger list as quickly as possible and time their effort. Always praise and encourage each effort!
- Play “Simon Says” where you use a combination of hopping, jumping, skipping, and running motions. Demonstrate (i.e. Simon Says) what you want your child to do and have them copy. Then let them be Simon and you copy what they do!
Swim Activities:
- Throw 10 tennis balls into the swimming pool. On “go,” have your child jump in the pool, swim and collect each tennis ball one-by-one and bring them back to the pool deck from which they started. Again time their effort, or if more kids are available, have them complete the activity in teams!
- Grab some pool noodles. You and your child get in a swim lane, place the noodles between your legs and hold on to them with your hands up near your chest. On “go,” begin kicking, while staying on top of the noodles, and race to the opposite end of the pool using only your legs.
Bike Activities:
- Accompany your child by bicycle to a local park or playground. Encourage them to come up with their own “tag” or “chase” game. PLAY WITH THEM! Run around, hang from the monkey bars, swing…or incorporate it into one big game. Make sure you and your child ALWAYS wear bicycle helmets and obey all cycle safety rules.
- Locate a secure or closed street or parking lot. Set up cones in different patterns and take turns with your child riding your bikes through the different patterns. Time each other to see who can finish the course in the best time. ALWAYS make sure your bikes have been checked by a professional and are in proper working order.
