Di Lusso Italian Monte Cristo Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 8 slices sourdough bread, about 6x4-inch in size
  • 0 DI LUSSO® Honey Mustard
  • 1/2 pound DI LUSSO® Deli Meats and Cheese, double smoked Ham, sliced
  • 8 slices DI LUSSO® Deli Meats and Cheese, Colby Jack cheese
  • 2 eggs, beaten or 1/2 cup egg substitute
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg, if desired
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Jam or preserves

Directions

  1. Spread one side of 4 bread slices with mustard.
  2. Top remaining 4 bread slices with ham. Place cheese evenly over the ham. Top each sandwich with bread, mustard side down; press lightly.
  3. In shallow dish or pie plate, combine eggs, milk and nutmeg, if desired.
  4. In large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat, melt butter.
  5. Dip each sandwich in egg mixture, turning to coat. Let excess egg mixture drip back into dish.
  6. Place sandwiches on griddle. Cook 8 minutes, turning once, or until cheese is melted and sandwiches are golden brown.
  7. Serve with jam or preserves, if desired.
